Strengthening Language Competence, UMK and Balai Bahasa Sultra Sign MoA and Conduct Adaptive UKBI Test
KENDARI – Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari (UMK) continues to reinforce its commitment to enhancing the quality and proficiency of the Indonesian language in higher education. This was demonstrated through a strategic collaboration with the Southeast Sulawesi Language Office (Balai Bahasa Provinsi Sulawesi Tenggara) in a series of events held over two full days, from July 8 to 9, 2026.
The main agenda of this collaboration was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the two institutions. This partnership is designed as a legal framework and a long-term commitment to strengthening language competence among lecturers, academic staff, and students within the UMK environment.
Moving beyond mere ceremony, the concrete implementation of this collaboration was immediately realized through the administration of the Adaptive Indonesian Language Proficiency Test (UKBI Adaptif) for the entire UMK academic community. The Adaptive UKBI is a modern, computer-based testing instrument that measures an individual's language proficiency dynamically, where the difficulty level of the questions adjusts directly to the test-taker's ability.
The Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari stated that proper and correct mastery of the Indonesian language reflects the true quality of an academic community. Through this synergy and competence testing, UMK aims to produce graduates and retain faculty members who are not only outstanding in their respective academic fields but also possess measurable, adaptive, and highly competitive language skills.
With this agreement in place, UMK and Balai Bahasa Sultra have agreed to continue overseeing various language programs in the future, fostering a campus environment that upholds language discipline and supports the prioritization of Indonesian as the national language in higher education.
